Sergio Agüero
Kun Aguero is a special footballer, easily on the podium as one of the world’s best mobile forwards. The Argentine has 15 goals in 15 league starts and six goals in five European starts, his team’s leading goal scorer. He’s simply spectacular whether dribbling, executing short pass interplay, finding space and few have his finishing skills. He sometimes fluffs the easier ones, but give him an impossible angle and instincts take over. Though not tall in stature, like Messi, Kun is strong and fast. This is for another day, so don’t get excited, but I’m predicting he will join his best friend Leo at Barça by the summer of 2015/16.
Where the other City attackers are more strictly strikers, Agüero is a well-rounded footballer. As detailed below, Kun gets off more shots per game, at a higher level of accuracy and scores more. He ranks highest in executing key passes as well as pass accuracy and is the City striker with most chances created and converted. He also takes on defenders three times more often (and more successfully) than Álvaro Negredo and over four times more than Edin Džeko, which makes up for his lesser success rate.

Álvaro Negredo
The Real Madrid product who made his name in Sevilla was a great addition to City’s team. Álvaro Negredo is a balanced mix of power and finesse. At 6’1 and 80 kilograms, Negredo is physically imposing, difficult to knock off the ball and dangerous in the air. But he’s also fast, technically sound, intelligent and a sure finisher with both feet.
But while a player like Mario Balotelli had many of the same raw characteristics, Negredo is a superior forward because of his maturity and mentality. He’s battled for a long time to make it to center-stage and that is a product of a determined, dedicated and focused professional. It’s easy to accept a certain level of success after not making it at a giant like Real Madrid, many players do, but Negredo played every game with Sevilla as if it was important and that takes mental strength.
Edin Džeko
The Bosnia/Herzegovina star hasn’t always been revered in England since joining from Wolfsburg in 2011. Edin Džeko is often considered City’s most movable asset and has attracted serious attention from other clubs. It is true his form can run hot and cold, but Džeko is an excellent striker. While finishing is definitely his main game, he’s no slump passer. One reason his shot accuracy is significantly lower than his colleagues is his tendency to try more difficult, low percentage attempts. But when he catches them right, Džeko can thunder goals in. He is also sneakily quick, I remember a game versus Arsenal when he blitzed down the left-flank much to everyone’s shock. In Germany he was a goal-every-second-game striker, and in England scores once about every 130 minutes. Džeko is City’s tallest striker at 6’3 and does present a threat aerially.
